Signs of a pet emergency include:

  • Choking or difficulty breathing
  • Broken bones
  • Cuts, lacerations or puncture wounds
  • Trauma, such as from being struck by a car or suffering a serious fall
  • Ingestion of a toxic substance or foreign object
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Diarrhea or vomiting containing blood or lasting longer than 24 hours
  • Swollen or tender abdomen
  • Lethargy or lameness
  • Disorientation
  • Seizures or convulsions
  • Loss of consciousness

Should any of these injuries or sudden illnesses occur, contact us right away. Whenever possible, we always advise calling ahead. This allows our experienced staff to assess the situation and provide instruction on first aid that you can apply in the interim. Phoning us first also allows us to prepare the hospital and other team members for your pet’s arrival. Of course, if your pet’s case does not allow time for a call, do not hesitate to come directly to the clinic for immediate attention.
