6 Reasons Cats Deserve Respect

There’s a very important pet holiday coming up. March 28th is Respect Your Cat Day! Our feline overlords may be small, but they do have a way of commanding respect. Fluffy even managed to convince the ancient Egyptians to treat her as a divine being! Read on as a Glendale, AZ vet lists some of the things that we respect kitties the most for.

Hunting Prowess

Your cute, cuddly little pet is actually a formidable predator in the wild. In fact, Fluffy’s hunting prowess is likely the reason we became friends with kitties, tens of thousands of years ago. This turned out to be a pretty good deal for cats. They kept our fields and farms clear of rodents, and in return were offered food, water, shelter, beds, and eventually, toys, catnip, and cat furniture, not to mention lap space.

Another great thing about kitties is the fact that they are so clean. Fluffy will groom herself every day to keep her pretty fur soft and smooth. She’ll also discretely use a litterbox to do her business, which makes things much easier on you.

Sleeping Ability

We really can’t help but be a bit awed by kitties’ napping skills. Some of these little furballs can sleep up to 20 hours a day! That’s impressive, if perhaps just a slight bit over the top.

Magic Purrs

Cats may pretend that they’re cold and aloof, but many are very affectionate, and love to snuggle up with their humans. As it turns out, kitty cuddles are actually good for us. Snuggling up with a purring cat can be very soothing. This can actually help people with PTSD, depression, anxiety, or other issues. Plus, cats purr at frequencies that have been shown to promote healing and tissue growth.

Another thing cats are good at? Just making us laugh! Our feline pals provide ongoing live entertainment with their silly antics and hilarious vocalizations. That’s just one more reason that Fluffy holds such a special place in our hearts.

Special Talents

We can’t really wrap up without mentioning kitty superpowers. Cats can seemingly defy gravity, sleep in positions commonly associated with pretzels, and pull off very impressive acrobatic jumps. They’re also very good at wrapping us around their paws!
