How to Keep Your Cat Happy and Healthy

September is Happy, Healthy Cat Month! While kitties deserve to feel happy and healthy all year, this is a great time to talk about what our feline pals need to truly thrive. Read on as a Glendale, AZ vet offers tips on keeping Fluffy’s little engine going.

Good Food

Good nutrition is very important to your furball’s health and well-being! Offer your kitty a high-quality brand of pet food. Don’t overfeed Fluffy, however. Chubby cats may be cute, but they face some very serious health risks. Ask your vet for nutritional advice.

Comfy Beds

Cats certainly are drowsy. Make sure your kitty has lots of comfy napping spot. Store bought beds are fine, but you can also just fold up a soft blanket and put it in an armchair or wicker basket.

Veterinary Care

While visiting us may not be Fluffy’s favorite activity, proper veterinary care is absolutely crucial to her health. Follow your vet’s recommended appointment schedule.

Clean Facilities

Make sure to keep Fluffy’s litterbox clean. No one likes a dirty bathroom!

Your furball will definitely appreciate having some pieces that were made to fit her. Cat towers are great, because they offer Fluffy a jungle gym, lookout point, manicure station, and napping spot. They also encourage kitties to jump and climb, which is great for them physically. Your feline pal will also approve of kitty tents and tipis, and cat tunnels.

Toys and Entertainment

Even the sleepiest furball can’t spend all of her time sleeping. Make sure Fluffy has plenty of fun toys to play with, and take time to hold that laser pointer for her to chase. This will benefit her both mentally and physically! Your kitty will also appreciate a good window view.

Never underestimate Fluffy’s ability to get into mischief. Keep your furball safe and sound indoors, where she isn’t exposed to hazards posed by cars, weather, and wild animals. We also recommend doing some kittyproofing.

Fluffy has tried very hard to convince us that she’s a cold-hearted killer, but we’re not buying it. Many of our feline patients are furry little cuddlebugs! Pay lots of attention to your cat, so she feels loved, safe, and perhaps a bit pampered.
