DIY Cat Furniture

Does your cat have some things of her own? If so, that’s great! Cat furniture is very beneficial to our feline friends. Fluffy loves having things to scratch, climb, and sleep on! You don’t have to break the bank getting your kitty’s things. There are lots of great DIY options for cat furniture you can make for your furry buddy. A North Phoenix, AZ vet lists a few of them below.

Kitty Hammock

Hammocks are great for cats, as they help keep Fluffy nice and cool. To make your feline buddy a kitty hammock, you’ll need an end table or coffee table with four legs, and some material. Cut the material so that it’s the same shape as the tabletop, but a bit smaller. Then, use rope or Velcro to attach the fabric to the legs.

Cat Tower

Cat towers are great for Fluffy: they offer her a jungle gym, a nail care station, and a napping spot. Towers also encourage healthy activities, like climbing and jumping. You can make your furball her own cat tower by repurposing an old stepladder. Add some planks to the steps to widen them out, and then wrap the whole thing in carpet or sisal rope. This also works with metal storage shelves and bookcases.

Pet Tent

Does your feline pal like to hide in enclosed spaces? Cats often love small places, as they feel safer when they aren’t so exposed. You can make Fluffy a cute little tent out of an old tee shirt and a wire hangar. You can even make your pet her own kitty tipi! Look online for step-by-step instructions.

Kitty Beds

As you’ve probably noticed, cats are rather sleepy little furballs. You can make Fluffy a cute bed frame out of an end table with doors. Just remove the doors, and add soft pillows or blankets. A hard shell suitcase or wicker basket will also work. Another option is to simply put a soft blanket in a box or wicker basket. If you really want to activate the purr, make Fluffy a window shelf. All you really need to do is use a board to widen out your windowsill, and then attach a cat bed to it with Velcro or two-sided tape. Instant happy cat!
