What if Cats Had Thumbs?

If we know one thing about cats, it’s that they are full of adorable quirks. It’s probably safe to say that many people owned by felines have wondered what is going on in their kitties’ heads. In fact, a whole day has been specifically devoted to speculating about our furry friends. March 3rd is If Pets Had Thumbs Day! What do you think your furball would do if she had opposable thumbs? A local Glendale, AZ vet offers a few educated guesses below.

Wreak Havoc

We’re pretty sure this one would be at or near the top of the list. Poor Polly may need to put a lock on her birdcage if Fluffy grew thumbs! And if you have a fish tank, well, let’s just say your finned buddies may not fare so well with a kitty that could actually open the tank cover and pluck them out.

Lock Fido Out

We know that many of our four-legged patients get along quite well. Some are even best buds! However, Fido and Fluffy sometimes get very jealous of one another. We suspect that many kitties would waste no time in locking their canine roommates out.

Open Cans

If your kitty suddenly developed thumbs, there is a fairly good chance that you would come home to find every can in your house open . . . and most of them left completely untouched.

Selective Furring

If your feline pal could open doors and dresser drawers, she would no doubt enjoy selecting different pieces of clothing to nap on. We wouldn’t exactly be shocked to find Fluffy snoozing on the things that trap the most cat hair, either.

Online Shopping

If cats could figure out how to order things online, you would likely soon be finding package after package arriving in the mail. Cat trees, beds, toys, wall-mounted furniture, and pet tents would probably be a good start, but we wouldn’t put it past Fluffy to order live fish, cat grass mats, catnip plants, birdfeeders, kitty fountains, or even real trees.

Download Physics Tutorials

Cats are fairly mysterious little furballs, and should not be underestimated. You may find Fluffy sprawled out on a computer with physics manual on the screen and a suspiciously smug look on her furry face!
