Tips for First-Time Cat Owners

Have you just adopted your first cat? Or, perhaps more accurately, have you just been claimed by a cat? Kitties are small, but they have huge personalities. You’re definitely in for a lot of adorable moments … and perhaps a few perplexing ones. Read on as a local North Phoenix, AZ vet offers tips for first time cat owners.

In order to keep your feline overlord happy, healthy, and purring, you’ll need to provide her with good food, fresh water, a clean litterbox, and regular veterinary care. Ask your vet for specific advice.

Cats have a way of getting us to spoil them. To activate your kitty’s purr, provide her with plenty of fun toys, a good window view, and some kitty furniture, such as a cat tower. We also strongly advise getting your furball a good scratching post.

Your Sleepy Pet

Cats all have their own purrsonalities. However, even though your feline pal will have some adorable quirks that are all her own, she will share a few traits with other kitties, such as a fondness for extreme sleeping. Providing your drowsy pet with lots of comfy beds.

Fluffy Is In Charge

Never force attention on a cat: Fluffy will decide when it’s time to cuddle, and for how long you are allowed to pet her. If you are doing it correctly, you will be rewarded with a purr. If you are doing it wrong, your cat will go to the other side of the room and stare at you with disapproval.

Kitty Affection

Cats have some rather interesting ways of showing their love. The purr is, of course, probably the most adorable one. It’s hard not to be charmed by the fact that kitties actually vibrate with happiness. Some of the other ways cats show their approval is by following you around, staring at you, jumping onto your lap, sleeping on top of you, playfully attacking you, and kneading you with their claws. If your kitty ever rolls onto her back and offers you her belly, she’s showing true love and trust.

Spend time with your kitty every day: talk to her, pet her, play with her, and let her cuddle up with you if she wants.
